SmartPin Golf Camera Used on ‘TGL’

A broadcast-ready 360° camera built into the flagstick – delivering a clean, never-before seen POV from the hole for live sport coverage.

SmartPin Cam – developed by Meta Camera with SmartPin Golf – continues to feature in TGL broadcasts in the US, bringing viewers right onto the green with a flag pole POV. The system debuted during TGL’s inaugural season and has since become a recognisable on-air angle for chips, near-misses and holed shots.

Getting a genuinely useful camera into the flag pole isn’t just about fitting optics into a tight form factor. For broadcast, it also needs reliable power, control, and a workflow that lets production teams call the shot when it matters – live, and without slowing play or adding friction at the green.

Meta Camera developed the SmartPin camera system and the supporting pipeline for remote streaming and control for broadcast operations. In the new video, SmartPin CEO Ashley Lloyd breaks down how the camera underpins SmartPin’s platform and why the flagstick POV has become central to their IP. (Watch below.)

The outcome is simple: a distinctive, broadcast-usable angle from the hole that adds context in the moments viewers care about – especially around short game and putts – without asking the broadcast team to compromise on reliability. Coverage and industry commentary around TGL highlighted how small on-course changes like this can have an outsized impact on the at-home experience.
